It's been a very busy summer, both at work and at home.  My author web site, www.michaela-august.com, has been completely redesigned and now includes its own blog, which I'm using mostly to post photos and information related to the historical backgrounds of my published novels.

I'm not participating in NaNoWriMo this year, mostly because I put my nose to the grindstone in October, and finally managed to finish the first draft of The Wolf Prince. It came in at 190,789 words...yikes!

After a very busy week of visitors (my sister and her two kids) with all the attendant family drama and confict between my Mom and my sister, I got Sunday, sweet Sunday, all to myself to write. Managed to finish Chapter 11 (which ended up at 25 single-spaced pages) and get started on Chapter 12.

This current chapter is being very difficult to write, since I've realized that large parts of my outline for the second half of the book now make little or no sense, but it's nice to have uninterrupted time to just chip away at a scene.

I know I've hit the halfway point in The Wolf Prince because the usual halfway-point crisis happened: I got stuck in the middle of a scene (as in, I went absolutely blank, and nothing but nothing was coming to me about what happens next).

Finished writing the first draft of chapter 5 of The Wolf Prince last weekend; this has been a busybusybusy week, with the added terror of prepping for a video author interview that was canceled at the last moment. Haven't started actually writing chapter 6 yet, but I've been thinking a lot about it, and am hoping to finish it by Sunday night.

Finished Chapter 5 of The Wolf Prince, after a stern pep talk by Jennise after I complained about how unhappy I was with my first draft of this book. She reminded me that the whole purpose of a "vomit draft" is to get the damned story down on paper (or disk, as the case may be) and worry about making it all pretty and descriptive and Meaningful ( Read more... )
